10-17-2007 A Syrian official has now admitted that the Israeli operation on September 6 destroyed a nuclear facility. A Syrian representative said Tuesday at the United Nations that reports that the target was a nuclear device were accurate. (Source: Arutz 7 10-17-2007)
9-23-2007Soldiers from an elite Israeli unit seized North Korean nuclear material from a secret Syrian military installation before it was bombed by IAF jets, a report by Britain's Sunday Times wrote Saturday night, quoting "informed sources in Washington and Jerusalem."
According to the sources, the alleged IAF attack was sanctioned by the US on September 6, after the Americans were given proof that the material was indeed nuclear-related.
The sources confirmed that the materials were tested after they were taken from Syria and were found to be of North Korean origin, which raised concerns that Syria may have been trying to come into the possession of nuclear arms.
The commandos, who, according to the report, belonged to the legendary General Staff's Reconnaissance Unit (Sayeret Matkal), may have been disguised in Syrian army uniforms. It was also stated that Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who used to head the unit, personally oversaw the operation
Israeli sources admitted that special forces had been accruing intelligence in Syria for several months, the report said, adding that evidence of North Korean activity at the installation was presented to President George Bush during the summer.

9-6-2007 Tensions have been raised by a mysterious Israeli air incursion over Syria on Sept. 6. Israel has placed a tight news blackout on the reported incident, while Syria has said little.
U.S. officials said it involved an airstrike on a target. One U.S. official said the attack hit weapons heading for the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, an ally of Syria and Iran, but there also has been speculation the Israelis hit a nascent nuclear facility or were studying routes for a possible future strike on Iran.
Former Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday he was involved "from the beginning" in the alleged airstrike, the first public mention by an Israeli leader about the incident. Netanyahu, the leader of the parliamentary opposition, did not give further details.

9-19-2007 New details of Syria’s weapons programs have been reported, indicating that chemical weapons may have been destroyed in the Israeli strike as well.
According to Jane’s Defense Weekly, the Israeli air strike was ordered after an accident involving a joint Syrian-Iranian team that was attempting to mount a chemical warhead on a scud missile.
Jane’s reports that an accident involving the same facility on July 23rd released sarin and VX nerve gas into the air and killing “dozens of Iranian engineers and 15 Syrian officers.”
Syria’s government-controlled media reported the incident as an explosion at an explosives storage facility near Aleppo “due to the heat.”
It has long been known that Syria has an advanced chemical weapons program, which it launched in 1973, just prior to the Yom Kippur War.

9-19-2007 A web site affiliated with the Iranian regime, Assar Iran, claimed Monday that Iran has more than 600 missiles pointed at targets in Israel. Missiles are also locked on United States positions in Iraq, according to sources in the Islamic Republic. The missiles, identified as Shihab-3s, will be launched if either Iran or Syria are attacked.
The missiles, identified as Shihab-3s, will be launched if either Iran or Syria are attacked, the web site warned. The unmodified Shihab-3 ("Meteor" in Persian) is assumed to have a range of 1,300 kilometers (approximately 800 miles), capable of striking targets in Israel. Several years ago, Iran claimed to have increased the range of its missiles to 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles).
The Assar Iran story could not be independently confirmed; however, it appears to reiterate information published in a Qatari newspaper in July of this year. According to the July 15, 2007, edition of Al-Watan, the Iranian army was targeting 600 sites in Israel for ballistic missile strikes in the event of an American operation against Iran. Quoting diplomatic sources in Syria, Al-Watan reported that Iran warned Israel and the US that it has the capability to destroy all of its selected targets in Israel.

In addition, Iran will fund Syrian research towards the respective establishment and improvement of nuclear and biological weapons programs.
In return, Syria has reportedly pledged not to enter into any diplomatic negotiations with Israel. Tehran will also be permitted to keep Iranian warplanes stationed in Syria.
